The Schmid Group has announced the delivery of the first TinPad systems. The system deposits tin busbars instead of silver on the backside of solar cells. Additionally Schmid has also attained certification of modules with the silver-free contacts.
Christian Buchner who leads the company's cell business unit explained, "We apply the tin contacts on a full-faced aluminum rear side. This closed layer improves rear side passivation which leads to an increase of cell efficiency by 0.2%".
The TinPad is based on a technology under license from Schott Solar. It was also awarded with the 2012 Intersolar Award.
Recently the Schmid Group had also sold three module lines to Turkey with a total capacity of 150 MWp.
