A striking solar power system installed on to a pyramid-shaped office building in Scotland, U.K., has been shortlisted in the Solar Power Portal Award under the category "Most Innovative System Design."
The office building of Survey Solutions stands proudly in the heart of the Scottish town of Loanhead, located just a few kilometers south of the capital, Edinburgh. British project planner Sustainable Renewable Technologies (SRT) are responsible for the installation of its mounted solar system, which was designed by German manufacturer Renusol, based in Cologne.
The 48 kWp installation uses 193 Jetion solar modules, four Danfoss inverters and 1,158 Renusol clamp bases, generating in excess of 41,000 kWh annually enough to cover 85% of Survey Solutions yearly electricity demand.
"I am delighted that we have been nominated," said Tom King, SRTs managing director, and the individual responsible for designing and constructing the solar installation. "The solar pyramid is the most challenging project that I have planned to date and many companies declared it to be impossible due to the buildings unusually steep inclination."
To complement the actual solar panels that form a large proportion of the buildings exterior, dummy solar modules were fitted around the edges of the pyramid to give the impression that its entire surface area is covered with solar panels. ??"Also designing the scaffolding proved to be an immense challenge, continued King. "The modules at the top of the pyramid were installed first, making it essential for them to be fixed securely in place.
"This is where the MetaSole mounting system from Renusol came in. It is the best system around and is incredibly quick and easy to install, which allowed us to save a lot of time as well as costs during the installation process."
The MetaSole system is easy to install, delivering a short mounting time and increased flexibility when installing on unusual inclines and surfaces. ??
