SDG&E signs 200 MW PPA for Mount Signal Solar project

The large-scale utility plant will be developed and built by 8minutenergy and its partners, including AES Solar of Arlington Va. When complete, the 200 MW system will be installed across 1,400 acres in the Imperial Valley, and should generate enough electricity to supply 240,000 households. The first 100 MW is expected to be on-line by mid-2013, with project completion slated for late 2013.

While SDG&E has signed the 25 year PPA, the contract is still subject to approval from the California Public Utilities Commission.

Tom Buttgenbach, president of 8minutenergy commented, "This power agreement validates our strategy for developing solar energy in California while creating about 1,000 construction jobs in the Imperial Valley where the unemployment rate has been ranked among the highest in the nation."
