Solar Frontier seals Indian PV supply deals

Solar Frontier will supply over 30 megawatts (MW) worth of its thin film photovoltaic panels to projects in India.

Under the agreements, the CIS panels will be installed across various projects by the end of the year.

While the company would not disclose who the customers are, or how much the supply agreements are worth, a spokesperson did tell pv magazine that the panels will be used for one photovoltaic project under the Gujarat state program and in six under the National Solar Mission. "The installations are located across India," he said.

He added that the over 30 MW of panels will be installed before the end of 2011. They will be manufactured at the company's thin film manufacturing plant in Japan.

"Our clients in India have particularly taken note of Solar Frontier’s high performance results in Thailand, which is very hot like significant parts of India," commented Yuichi Kuroda, VP of International Business at Solar Frontier. "CIS solar panels are gaining a reputation as the sunbelt leader."

He went on to say that India is an important growth market for the Japanese photovoltaic company.
