Photovoltaic companies PsomasFMG and GCL Solar are currently developing a 9.5 megawatt (MW) system of solar installations at Antelope Valley high schools. They are now complimenting these installations with a scholarship program to support students who show ability in science and mathematics make the transition to top colleges.

The first awardees of the Raleign Wright Scholarships have been announced, with PsomasFMG and GCL Solar contributing a combined $80,000 to four local students, over four years. The scholarship is named after a retired mathematics teacher from the school district.

Collaborations between Antelope Valley educational institutions and solar installers are becoming more common, with an installation being inaugurated at the Antelope Valley Community College only days ago. The installation was completed in partnership with Chevron Energy Solutions.

James T. Lott was quoted in a statement announcing the scholarships, "along with green benefits and energy savings from the solar panels, this scholarship program is yet another example of how the Antelope Valley Union High School District has benefited from its working with PsomasFMG and GCL Solar."

"Education, like solar energy, is an investment in our children’s future," added GCL Solar’s Yumin Liu.

The awardees were Heidi Aguilar, Ashlie Lobos, Joshua Mendoza, and Shelby Richardson, who will each received $20,000.
