Solarpack awarded 16 MW Peruvian PV project
01. September 2011 | Applications & Installations, Industry & Suppliers | By: Becky StuartUnder the second renewable energy tender (RER) of Peru, Spanish photovoltaic company Solarpack says it has been awarded the "entirety of the solar energy segment".
Under a power purchase agreement, scheduled to be signed with the Peruvian Government on September 30, the company says it will install a 16 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic power plant in Mariscal Nieto province, near Ilo and Moquegua. If all goes to plan, it will be operational by 2014.
A spokesperson for the company tells pv magazine that the generated energy will be sold to SEIN, the Peruvian electrical system.
In a statement released, Solarpack says it expects the agreement to be worth €105 million. It adds that it offered a solar energy selling price of USD$119.9 per MW hour.
Pablo Burgos, Solarpack CEO, comments, "Winning this important contract consolidates our leadership in Latin America and demonstrates once more the potential of the photovoltaic technology in cost reductions."
Solarpack was also awarded 100 percent of Peru’s first RER bid program, alongside another unnamed Spanish company, 19 months ago.
Furthermore, it was awarded two PPAs in 2010 to develop, construct and operate two photovoltaic plants worth 40 MW in Peru. Located in Tacna and Moquengua, they are scheduled for completion next year. A total of USD$180 million has been invested in them.
The company concludes by saying that it is currently installing Chile’s first industrial photovoltaic power plant for Codelco. Called Calama Solar 3, the one MW project is expected to be operational by the end of the year.
Solarpack is active in Chile, Spain, the U.S., France and Peru. In Spain, it currently operates and maintains 22 MW worth of photovoltaic projects. Overall, it has a pipeline of 260 MW.
