SolarWorld moves into Japan

Post-Fukushima energy politics and the shutdown of nuclear plants in Japan have led to the promotion of solar power via a feed-in legislation. PV is moving on a growth path in the country. The subsidiary SolarWorld Asia Pacific, based in Singapore, has been active in the growing Japanese market for over a year now.

The company will be supported in its sales activities at the new Tokyo office by sales partner Europe Solar Innovations Co. Ltd. (ESI).

"Japan is one of the largest growth markets for solar energy in the world," said Frank Asbeck, CEO of SolarWorld AG. "After the catastrophe of Fukushima, people are looking for safe and sustainable prospects for energy supply."

"Japan was already a pioneer in photovoltaics in the 1970s, and will again play an important role in the coming years. The conditions for clean solar power couldn’t be better, as a result of which the use of solar energy will increase significantly here over the next few years. Solar power also makes a decisive contribution to ensuring a reliable energy supply to the people living in the region."
