Spain's Soltec Renewable Energies has begun manufacturing its SF Utility tracker controller in Bahia, Brazil.
Soltec, a leading manufacturer and supplier of single-axis solar trackers, opened the 600 MW capacity factory in September. The company said the new fab would centralize single-axis tracker manufacturing in Brazil to better serve the South American market and take advantage of local manufacturing regulatory incentives.
Soltec will also use the new facility to supply Latin America's booming solar market. A leading tracker supplier in the region, Soltec is also active in Chile, Peru and Mexico in addition to the U.S., China, Denmark, Italy and Israel. It's expansion in Brazil is part of an overall increase in solar manufacturing in the country.
Last year, the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) announced local content requirements for solar projects that it will finance in an effort to bolster local PV manufacturing.
"Soltec Brazil is ready to initiate and execute projects in Brazil with our tracker controller that meets all requirements of the Brazilian Development Bank for PV plant financing, said Carlos García Mena, Soltec's local director in Brazil.
José Manuel Flores, Soltec's head of production, said the company's SF Utility single-axis tracker technology was "optimized for maximum performance with minimum operating power consumption," adding that its solar tracking algorithms orient photovoltaic panels more precisely, "maximizing both instantaneous power output and net electricity output.
In addition to tracking equipment, Soltec Brazil offers a wide range of services for solar plants, including project design, tracker installation, supervision, commissioning and O&M services.
