Spain: T-Solar plans to lay off 170 employees

Thin film module producer T-Solar has officially started proceedings to lay off its 170-strong workforce at its factory located in Ourense, northern Spain, according to local media.

The company, one of the main photovoltaic module producers in Spain, cites to the drop in the demand, competition from Asia and cuts to renewable energy funding in Spain as reasons for its decision.

Trade union Federación del Metal de UGT is said to be looking for solutions for the employees and has called for a meeting with the regional government to discuss the situation. Trade unions will have now a month to negotiate.

T-Solar has introduced several temporary jobs cuts since last summer. Meanwhile, in March, the company declared voluntary insolvency.
