LDK Solar subsidiary SPI Solar announced yesterday that its own, wholly owned subsidiary – Xinyu Xinwei New Energy Co – has entered into an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) agreement to build a 30 MW solar PV plant in China.

The project, which will be located in Zhongwei City in China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, is being overseen by Zhongwei Hengji Weiye Photovoltaic Power Co., Ltd, a local renewable energy developer with project across Western China.

Construction is expected to begin shortly, and grid connection is penciled in for before the end of 2014. Xinwei, alongside its EPC service, will also survey and design the site, procure all equipment and materials, deliver training and technical advice, and complete the entire construction and installation.

For SPI, this contract represents a "significant milestone" in the group's growing EPC endeavors in China’s bullish domestic PV market.

"This agreement highlights the opportunity for the construction of solar projects across China's interior regions," said SPI CEO Min Xiahou. "This announcement follows others we've recently made regarding projects in China, and we anticipate that we will continue to expand SPI’s footprint across this growing PV market through EPC contracts, project development and selected investments in a diversified portfolio of solar projects and assets."
