Five of the ten awardees of the BNEF New Energy Pioneers Awards have come from the solar and storage sectors. The purpose of the awards is to highlight game-changing innovators and thus demonstrate “the profound transition in today’s energy system, towards new business models, technologies and market structures.”

The awardees were selected by a panel of industry experts from a “high volume of applicants.”

The solar and storage companies to pick up an award were mobile pay-as-you-go offgrid solar provider BBOXX, cloud computing and storage’s Greensmith, Locus Energy from the monitoring and analytics sector, residential and commercial storage provider Sonnenbatterie, and intelligent large-scale storage provider Stem. The awardees came from the UK, the U.S. and Germany.

“We were struck by the amount of innovation hat these organizations display and the impact that they are already having on the energy system of the future,” said Selection Committee Chair and Head of Analysis at BNEF Michael Wiltshire.
