The Berlin companys CEO and founder, Nikolaus Meyer, says the new name better reflects the companys core activities, which have evolved over the last decade.
In a statement, Meyer explains: "The renaming is a logical step that takes the evolution of our company into account. The new name Soltecture gets to the heart of our core competencies and stands for superior performance in solar, technology, and architecture.
"With the renaming we are signaling and underlining the development of the company from module manufacturer to a provider of optimum integrated PV system solutions."
Soltecture has a current annual production capacity of 20 megawatts (MW) for its CIS (copper indium selenium) line. Meanwhile, its CIGSe (copper indium gallium selenide) capacity is being expanded from five to 15 MW.
In January 2011, the company secured 18.8 million for the further development of its CIGSe technology from investors led by Intel Capital.
With this, Soltecture says it is forging ahead with development of production machinery and increasing the capacity of its fully-automated manufacturing facility for its new CIGSe modules.
