The leading solar state in the U.S., California has added a further 20 MW of PV capacity to its portfolio following the interconnection of the Adobe Solar Facility in Kern County.
The solar farm is owned by local utility Southern Company, with its subsidiary Southern Power along with Turner Renewable Energy commissioning the help, expertise and equipment of global solar technology company SunEdison to complete the plant.
SunEdison supplied 80,000 SunEdison SilvantisTM Solar PV modules for the plant, and will also provide asset management and 24/7 monitoring and maintenance services via the companys dedicated Renewable Operations Center.
Clean energy generated by the solar farm will be bought by Southern California Edison, which is a subsidiary of Edison International. The company has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Southern Power for the electricity produced at the Adobe Solar Facility, which is estimated to be sufficient to power nearly 92,000 local households a year.
SunEdison is a regular partner of Southern Power and Turner Renewable Energy, having worked together on three previous solar PV projects in the past two years, including a 20 MW AC Apex project in Nevada and a 2.5 MW AC Granville project in North Carolina.
