SunPower Corporation yesterday announced that it will supply 69 MW worth of its E20/32 solar panels for installation at the Eurus Energy mega solar power plant, located in the village of Rokkasho, Aomori, Japan.

The plant is owned by Eurus Rokkasho Solar Park Corporation, a subsidiary of Eurus Energy Group, and is scheduled to begin its commercial operations in the second half of 2015. Architectural and engineering company Shimizu Corporation, acting as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) provider for the project, will install the panels, which offer the industry’s lowest power degradation — unprecedented 87% power efficiencies after 25 years.

"The proven efficiency and reliability of the modules from SunPower Corporation, coupled with the industry’s best warranty, will enable us to build a power plant that will benefit the community of Rokkasho," said Satoshi Takahata, Eurus Rokkasho Solar Park Corporation president.

SunPower‘s much-vaunted E20/327 solar panels are built on to a solid copper foundation, which makes them extremely durable. They also boast an efficiency of 20.1%, meaning more power can be delivered in the same amount of space, and come backed with the company’s standard 25-year combined product and power warranty.

"We are pleased that Eurus chose SunPower Corporation for two mega solar power plant projects in Japan," said SunPower’s president for regions, Howard Wenger. "The Japanese market continues to respond well to our high efficiency solar products for all customer segments — residential, commercial, and utility-scale."

Eurus Energy and SunPower have also teamed up to install 27.4 MW of solar panels at another mega solar power plant project in Toyokoro, Hokkaido, japan. For this project, scheduled for commercial operation some time in 2015, Obayashi Corporation will install and act as EPC.
