Switzerland cuts PV tariffs for a third time
21. August 2012 | Applications & Installations, Global PV markets, Markets & Trends | By: Becky BeetzPhotovoltaic feed-in tariffs (FITs) in Switzerland will be reduced for a third time this year, from October 1.
The Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) has announced that tariffs will decrease by an average of 15%. The reason cited is the falling prices of photovoltaic modules in the European market. DETEC added that due to the "large uncertainties" of module prices, it will continue to check the level of FITs.
Already this year, Switzerland has made significant FIT reductions of 8% in January and 10% in March. Following the introduction of the latest cuts on October 1, the average remuneration for new photovoltaic installations will be 0.36 Rp/kWh (around US$0.37; €0.30). A further automatic cut of 8% will be introduced in early 2013.
See the table below for a complete overview of the cuts.
