Syntegra Solar adds further 43 MW of PV farms in Philippines, beating FIT deadline

Today, March 15 is the deadline for solar projects in the Philippines to be eligible for the current feed-in-tariff (FIT) compensation of $0.19/kWh under the country’s 500 MW cap. In the final month prior to the deadline, the solar rush in the Philippines tangibly sped up, with new large projects seemingly being powered and unveiled every week.

The Swiss-based PV firm Syntegra Solar today announced an additional 43 MW of PV plants commissioned “right on time” to meet the Department of Energy’s (DOE) requirements for FIT compensation.

Two newly powered PV farms built by Megawide Construction Corporation are expected to provide green energy for at least 45,000 households. The 25 MW Silay PV Power Plant, located next to the Bacolod-Silay International Airport, is said to produce some 37,500 MWh annually, offsetting approximately 27,500 tons of CO2 per year.

The second project – the 18 MW Bataan PV Power Plant located near Mariveles – was commissioned immediately before the deadline. It is designed to produce some 27,000 MWh of solar power annually.

With two new projects added to its portfolio, Syntegra Solar to date now has 260 MW of PV farms under operation in the Philippines, having last week inaugurated 98 MW of solar PV capacity across four separate projects.
