Trina Solar and SERIS reach solar cell agreement

The development of an all-back contact high-efficiency silicon wafer solar cell is about to get underway, following an agreement between Trina Solar Limited and the Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore (SERIS).

SERIS will start research and development on high efficiency crystalline solar cells by printing contacts onto the cell's rear, in order to increase front surface exposure to sunlight.Trina Solar will be utilizing its own monocrystalline wafers and will cover the cost of the research project.

The company aims to realize up to 21.5 percent production efficiency and up to 23.5 percent laboratory test efficiency. The project is slated to be completed in three years.

"We are excited to have this opportunity to work with Trina Solar in the development phase of this advanced solar cell technology," said Professor Armin Aberle, cluster director of Silicon Photovoltaics at SERIS.
