Gestamp Solar is installing photovoltaic systems at six of the automotive manufacturers French factories, located in Douai, Maubeuge, Flins, Batilly, Sandouville and Cleon, worth a total of 60 MW.
When complete, the project's generated energy should be sufficient to power the needs of a city of around 14,000 people annually. It will also be the biggest photovoltaic project in the auto industry, worldwide.
Systems will be installed on car parking lots, and delivery and dispatch areas. Trinas modules are expected to cover an area of 415,000 square meters. Delivery is scheduled to commence in June and will run through to November. The financial details were not disclosed.
Work on the photovoltaic project is also expected to start this month, and should be complete by February 2012.
Jorge Barredo, CEO of Gestamp Solar stated last month: "This project with Renault is the France's largest project in terms of megawatts for contributing to the reduction of CO2 in the automotive industry."
Gestamp has previously completed two other photovoltaic projects for the automotive industry: a 1.1 MW system for Lamborghini in Italy; and an eight MW system for Seat in Spain.
