Two US PV landfill projects announced
12. October 2011 | Applications & Installations, Industry & Suppliers | By: Becky StuartPVNavigator, LLC is set to install a 3.1 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic system at a landfill in New Jersey. In related news, Tioga Energy and Chevron Energy Solutions have said they will build a 1.15 MW system atop a capped Californian landfill.

PVNavigator says it has been awarded a contract by the Township of Gloucester in New Jersey for the lease and development of a 3.1 MW photovoltaic system at the Owens Corning Landfill.
It will manage all phases of the project, including its design, permitting, financing and implementation. Further details on construction or completion dates, or the amount invested, were not disclosed.
According to a statement released however, the generated energy is expected to be sold to the local utility grid. The company adds that some of the power will be directly sold to the adjacent Chews Elementary School.
Meanwhile, in other solar landfill news, Tioga and Chevron will install a 1.15 MW photovoltaic system in the city of Dinuba. When complete, it is hoped the power generated will reduce energy costs for operations at the city’s wastewater treatment plant.
The system will reportedly comprise 4,704 photovoltaic modules, which will be located atop a capped landfill near Dinuba’s wastewater treatment facility. It is scheduled for completion by the end of the year.
Tioga says it will finance, manage and own the project through its SurePath Solar power purchase agreement. It will sell the generated electricity back to the city over a period of 20 years. Chevron, meanwhile, will provide design, engineering and construction services.
