Update on 540 kW Turkey PV plant

Last week, pv magazine reported that Gehrlicher Merk Solar had completed a 540 kW photovoltaic plant in Turkey. It has come to light, however, that the project is only expected to be finalized by the end of the year.

The project, located at Izmir airport, will be comprised of a 450 kW grid-connected ground-mounted plant, and 90 kW worth of off-grid systems installed on several radar stations when complete. 

Last week, Canadian Solar, which will supply its CS6P-P photovoltaic modules to Gehrlicher, issued a press release indicating that work had already been completed. However, a spokesperson for the company told pv magazine today that the project is only expected to be finalized by the end of the year. They declined to divulge any further details.

A spokesperson for Gehrlicher Solar's partner in Turkey added, "The project is under permission stage and it is the first large scale project to be completed under the new incentive program. The project will be completed in December or January depending on the weather conditions."

This is the second time that Canadian Solar and Gehrlicher have worked together in Turkey. This September the two parties finalized a 96 kW photovoltaic project for the municipality of Bursa.

In related news, Yalçın Adıyaman, deputy general manager of Halk Enerji, part of construction company Metag, told pv magazine that his company received final permission from Turkey's public distribution company TEDAS at the end of October to install a 300 kW photovoltaic project in the country.

He added, "Furthermore, Halk Enerji ordered 1,5 MW from BOSCH Solar Energy AG to build PV project in southern regions of Turkey this year."
