Updated PV GRID platform provides comparisons for European PV installations

Share

The platform performs several services. Firstly, it summarizes information on national frameworks for developing photovoltaic installations. Secondly, it provides a quantified assessment of each national framework currently in place with regards to a variety of factors (site selection, grid connection permit, support schemes, financing, photovoltaic system construction, grid connection and commissioning, and photovoltaic system operation).

According to the results of its assessment, it rates a national framework for each of these categories as smart, fair, improvable, troublesome or bad. Thirdly, PV GRID also compares countries as to how well they perform in each of these categories and in overall as well, using indicators as the waiting time, legal-administrative labor requirements and other.

PV GRID's data has been collected by the project's participants, which include 13 national photovoltaic associations, the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA), RWE Deutschland and others.

PV GRID is funded by the European Commission and will run May 2012 until October 2014. It follows the PV LEGAL project, which ran from July 2009 until February 2012 and focuses on removing grid-related barriers popping up due to the fast deployment of PV technology in Europe.

PV GRID has much simplified its interface and has become a user-friendly analytical and comparative tool for photovoltaic installations in Europe. More platform updates will also follow soon.
