Already, eight of the systems, all of which will be under one MW in size, have been installed. Overall, the 5.87 MW are expected to be operational by next spring.

When complete, the project will comprise 25,536 photovoltaic panels mounted atop steel-frame canopies, and will provide shaded parking for 1,625 vehicles. The systems are expected to generate over 80 percent of the school district's electrical needs.

PsomasFMG, which is managing the installation of the three-phase photovoltaic project, arranged for project financing free of upfront costs to the school district. A 20 year power purchase agreement has also been signed. It has been said that Southern California Edison will supplement the school district's remaining energy requirements.

Schools involved include the Aerospace Academy, Barrel Springs, Buena Vista, Chaparral, Cimarron, Desert Rose, Desert Willow, Golden Poppy, Joshua Hills, Juniper, Los Amigos, Ocotillo, Palm Tree, Palmdale Learning Plaza, Quail Valley, Shadow Hills, Summerwind and Tumbleweed.
