US: Solon to supply modules to National Grid's one MW solar site

Construction on the Haverhill project has begun by solar developer Rivermoor Energy and electrical contractor, Fischbach & Moore. The project, which is due to be completed this autumn, is designed to generate 1,016 kilowatts of direct current power or approximately 1,300 megawatt-hours per year. Energy production comes from 3,696 ground-mounted panels, stretching across nearly five acres.

The solar generation facility in Haverhill is estimated to save 22 tons of sulfur dioxide, nine tons of nitrous oxides and 16,000 tons of carbon dioxide over a 30-year period. It is capable of generating enough solar energy to annually power more than 100 homes.

Fouad Dagher, renewable energy program manager for National Grid commented: "The project supports the solar industry both in materials and in providing green jobs in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We've already completed one site in Whitinsville, Mass. Haverhill is next, and three more sites are underway, for a total of five megawatts of solar generation."
