Overall, the India-based company completed the 50 MW in three phases totaling 15 MW, 15 MW and 20 MW near Phalodi, in Indias Jodhpur District. It is Welspuns biggest photovoltaic project to date, and was awarded under Phase I Batch II of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission.
"Completion of this project before schedule and at a lower than budgeted cost, demonstrates Welspun Energys expertise in solar project development," stated co-founder and MD, Vineet Mittal. He added, "With this 50 MW solar project completion, we have set new standards of project execution, creating new benchmark for the industry."
At the start of March, Welspun closed INR 8.85 billion (around 124.3 million, US$161.7 million) worth of funding for a 130 MW photovoltaic project, located in Madhya Pradesh. Work on the project is already underway and should be completed by next May.
Overall, Welspun has said it aims to commission 1.75 GW of solar and wind projects over the next few years.
