Jobs in the PV industry

07. September 2010 By:  Sergio Devont

My main aim of attending the EU PVSEC with my friends was to get a feel of the opportunities this exhibition and sector has to offer for fresh graduates who are from different fields like marketing, engineering, public relations and others: we are all graduates soon and will be going into the working field.

The solar sector looks like a lucrative field and it sure is at the moment worth a look. My friends and I live here in Valencia and are quite shocked about the cuts that are happening in Spain.

Spain used to be so active in the solar sector and we all thought that our country would set an example for the world. But the cuts have been quite a drastic blow to our hopes. I still nevertheless want to get into the industry, because even if this country does not promise me anything in the solar market, there are other opportunities as I have heard at this exhibition.

This includes jobs in the marketing and engineering divisions of companies like Juwi and Satcon. Yes, it means moving to Germany or even China, but these are the dominant markets right? In order to climb the ladder and be successful, we have to go where the market looks promising, I feel.

I have been rather satisfied with the opportunities that have been offered to me. I actually saw the message that there was a jobs corner through the pv magazine twitter feed. It was completely a coincidence, when I was passing by and saw a beep with the message about the jobs corner. We rushed there, and there it was. Engineering, marketing, media, business administration, technical, promotions, etc.

I am very positively surprised, as I thought the industry was in a slump. But it is actually one that is growing. I am also surprised that the exhibition is taking place in Valencia. Yes, the sun is here. But it is not really a very solar city. I just felt that some basic things like transportation can be better, because there are so many people and our relaxed train and bus system is turning the quiet trains into little solar ovens. Haha. Nevertheless, I am glad that everyone in the solar world is turning around to notice Valencia.
