At their conference in Miami , the Climate Reality Project announced their endorsement of the Floridians for Solar Choice ballot initiative.

Climate Reality Project’s founder and former Vice President of the United States, Al Gore, spoke strongly in support of the ballot initiative and solar energy at the conference. During a bi-partisan solar policy panel Wednesday morning, Gore stated that, "Floridians for Solar Choice is the choice you want to make" and urged attendees to support and sign the Solar Choice initiative in order to remove the barriers that have been put in place by monopoly utilities in the state of Florida.

“The cost of electricity from solar energy is coming down so fast now, it is bringing with it an energy revolution that is unprecedented in the history of the world,” noted Al Gore on All In with Chris Hayes on MSNBC on September 29. “Solar PV (photovoltaic) on rooftops plus more affordable batteries is changing everything. Florida is going to be a battleground next year during the election and a bi-partisan coalition is saying ‘we want to be able to buy electricity from solar panels on our rooftops.’ There’s going to be a political revolution here in the state of Florida.”

Climate Reality Project joins the growing bi-partisan coalition that comprises nearly 60 businesses, industry associations, conservative groups, faith communities, clean energy and environmental organizations that seek to remove barriers that limit solar ownership models.

Florida is one of only four states where current law expressly denies citizens and businesses the freedom to buy solar power electricity directly from someone other than a monopoly electric utility or government-owned electric utility.
