Convert Italia SpA, Italian company leader in renewable energy field for more than 30 years, won an important committee to supply 97 MW solar axial trackers (TRJ TK*) for the Carrera Pinto PV (photovoltaic) plant in the region of Atacama in Chile. The project will be completed by the end of 2015 by general contractor Progetti International from Gruppo Merloni.

Its capacity will be one of the largest in the world among PV plants built with axial tracking technology. It is located 60 Km to the north of Copiapó, capital of the desertic region of Atacama, and its surface spreads for about 180 hectares.

“This plant – says Giuseppe Moro, CEO and founder of Convert Italia Spa – values the efforts of Convert in the South American market. After South Africa and India and with new incoming agreements in Brazil, Jordan and UAE, Convert Italia confirms its role as a global player in step with the worldwide markets.”

“PV market – explains Giuseppe Moro – is growing particularly fast in Chile. Two years ago the installed power could not reach 4MW and 70MW were under construction. There are now 170 operational MW and other 800 MW planned for 2016. Chile is one of the most interesting countries for PV investments, with a growing quota of energy from non-traditional renewable. Through gradual objectives and a series of support policies, it will bring from 5% in 2014 to 20% expected in 2025.

TRJ TK (http://www.convertitalia.com/trj/en/trj-kit/) is a kit which rotates photovoltaic panels, enabling them to track the sun along the whole of its daily East-West journey. This maximises (up to 25% more than fixed systems) the energy collection and economic efficiency of the entire installation. With the Convert Italia TRJ TK kit the photovoltaic panels are optimally oriented at all times of the day without the need for manual intervention or a control centre.
