Mexico's Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE) granted an electricity generation permit to Delicias Solar in July for a 37.4 MWp solar plant.

Delicias is a subsidiary of Dhamma Energy Mexico, part of the Spanish Dhamma Energy group.

Dhamma Energy has been developing the 37.4 MW project for more than a year in the northeastern part of Guanajuato state. The 84-hectare installation will use crystalline silicon modules and single-axis horizontal trackers. Its construction is planned for the first half next year.

The generation permit is the first obtained by the Dhamma Energy group in Mexico, and the project represents an investment of approximately $80 million in Guanajuato state, with the creation of around 300 construction jobs at the plant.

"Following two years of presence in Mexico, we are convinced the ongoing energy reforms, after being implemented, will allow a significant development of renewable energy in the country, and especially of solar energy," said Philippe Esposito, president of Dhamma Energy.

"At a time of growing concern over climate change, the Mexican government's commitment to renewable energy is highly beneficial for the country."

Dhamma Energy Mexico has a 350 MW portfolio in development in the country, which it plans to build and put into operation between 2015 and 2018.

The Dhamma Energy group develops solar plants in Spain, France, Mexico, sub-Saharan Africa and India.
