Gestamp Solar begins construction of a PV plant in Fresno, California08. June 2012 | By: Gestamp Solar
Gestamp Solar, the photovoltaic solar division of Gestamp Renewables, announced that they will begin construction of a photovoltaic solar plant in Fresno, California, USA.
The installation, named “la Joya del Sol,” will produced a total of two MW of energy and is located in the County of Fresno, California, one of the best zones in the United States for solar radiation.
The project has secured a Power Purchase Agreement with the utility PG&E (Pacific Gas & Electric) for a duration of 20 years. This is the first PV project within PG&E’s FiT (feed in tariff) program that will begin construction and one of the first solar projects in the County of Fresno between a private developer and a utility.
Jorge Barredo, CEO of Gestamp Solar, affirmed that: “the development of photovoltaic projects in the United States market is a priority, allowing for new opportunities in business and work for Gestamp Solar.” He added, “La Joya Del Sol reaffirms the globalization of our company.”
Electricity production from this project will decrease the emission of CO2 into the atmosphere by more than 1,400 tons each year and will generate the equivalent of the annual electric consumption of over 1,000 homes.
