Silevo, Inc., a hybrid solar cell innovator and manufacturer of Triex photovoltaic (PV) solar modules, announced that Aaron Thurlow has joined Silevo as vice president of sales and marketing.

Thurlow brings to Silevo over a decade of experience creating and establishing some of the most successful sales distribution channels in the solar industry. At Silevo, Thurlow will oversee continued market expansion for the company’s Triex technology, hybrid solar modules that combine high efficiency and exceptional energy yield with a low cost structure.

Thurlow brings a global perspective on growing new business opportunities, developing sales channels and building solar brands. He has worked for notable manufacturers including Kyocera Solar, SunPower, National Semiconductor and Stion. Thurlow speaks at numerous global industry conferences, was elected to and serves on the Board of Directors for the California Solar Energy Industries Association, and previously served on the Board of the National Solar Energy Industry Association. Thurlow has a master’s degree in energy and environmental policy from the University of Delaware, where he studied photovoltaics. He holds his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, San Diego.

“As Silevo looks to add a new manufacturing plant in 2013, Aaron Thurlow’s experience and leadership will help the company become an established leader in a very competitive industry,” said Chris Beitel, executive vice president of business development and planning. “Thurlow has the unique combination of working for startups and large corporations within the industry. He has a deep understanding of bringing new technology to market and a keen awareness for channel strategy.”

“Despite the current hyper-competitive nature of the solar industry and vast manufacturing over-capacity, there is still a lack of differentiated technology with real proven advantages,” Thurlow said. “I am excited to join the Silevo team and expand the reach of their Triex technology, which offers high efficiency, better real-world performance and a competitive cost structure. There is a real need in the market for this type of technology.”

The appointment of Thurlow builds on a number of important technology milestones for Silevo. Its proprietary tunneling junction cell architecture, Triex, recently achieved 22.1 percent cell conversion efficiency, one of the highest energy densities in the industry. The company began high-volume commercial production in September 2012.

“As we grow our team and our business, Silevo is attracting top talent and Thurlow’s experience and marketing talent is a key addition to help establish Triex technology in the marketplace,” said Zheng Xu, CEO at Silevo.
