TASC and SCE&G came together with the Office of Regulatory Staff (ORS) and environmental parties to support a solar net metering program that will give families from all income levels the ability to choose solar.
Net metering is a policy that gives solar customers full retail credit for self-generated power. Last year, South Carolina's legislature unanimously passed a law to make South Carolina the 44th state with net metering. Across the country, there have been more than 150 expansions since the policy's inception decades ago and not a single contraction.
"Today is an exciting day for South Carolinians because we are one step closer to having choice and control over how we power our own homes," said Tyson Grinstead, Spokesperson for TASC and Senior Manager of Public Policy at Sunrun, Inc. "We are pleased to see SCE&G show its support for net metering through this new residential solar program."
Since 2010, the solar industry added over 80,000 new jobs to the US economy. South Carolina's political leaders are hopeful to see the solar industry grow in the Palmetto State and give South Carolinians the right to use the power they generate on their rooftops and control their energy costs.
