UBM India, host of the annual Renewable Energy India (REI) expositions in the country, announced its first ever India-Sri Lanka Renewable Energy Growth Forum, to showcase the business opportunities that exist in both the countries in the field of renewable energy.

Exclusively supported by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, this one-day conference is being held on 11th March at The Galadari Hotel, Colombo and gains further significance in the light of the recent visit of the President of Sri Lanka to India and upcoming visit of Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to Sri Lanka on 13th March. The renewable energy sector is one of the top most priority sectors of the new Indian government that has set an ambitious target of achieving 100 GW of solar power and 60 GW of wind power generation by the year 2022, and is expected to attract US$ 200 billion worth of investments to drive this sector forward.

The India-Sri Lanka Renewable Energy Growth Forum aims to accelerate growth of the renewable energy sector in Sri Lanka by offering suitable development opportunities to Indian businesses in this industry. Leading industry experts, product manufacturers, system integrators will throw light on the prospects for both countries to work together in this area, for end-use applications and execute projects to achieve new standards and benchmarks of business synergy.

The conference provides an ideal platform for system integrators, distributors, channel partners, consultants and entrepreneurs to network and discuss with key decision makers and stakeholders on the latest trends, best practices, and innovative solutions. Leading professionals will address policy, technology, finance and other important drivers for increased deployment of renewables, leading to energy security and economic growth.

On the sidelines of the announcement, Joji George, MD, UBM India stated, "Sri Lanka has a high potential for renewable energy resources, but harnessing of these resources requires formulation and implementation of renewable energy development programmes. With this business initiative, UBM India intends to provide a platform for investments in solar and wind projects and endeavours to find solutions to fulfil energy needs and secure energy security for both the countries at a time when global climate change concerns have become stronger than ever. Together we can accelerate the growth of renewables in the region through collaboration and knowledge share."
