France: Work to begin on Boralex's first solar park

Having fulfilled the regulatory conditions and obtained financing for the project, the company will start building the €14.6 million Avignonet-Lauragais solar park on Saturday, January 15. Q-Cells France is responsible for the engineering, construction and maintenance of the facility, which is scheduled to begin operations in May.

The installation is the first solar undertaking by Boralex, which said that it is looking to expand in this segment, particularly in France. "After studying the solar segment in France, Boralex is confident that this reasonably sized project is our best way to gain a foothold in solar-powered electricity production," commented Patricia Lemaire, president and CEO of Boralex.

The park will be located on land adjacent to the Avignonet-Lauragais wind farm, thus reportedly creating the first mixed solar and wind energy power generation site in France. It has secured a 20-year contract with Électricité de France.
