Algatec Solar Ontario Inc. has said it will invest CAD$10 million in the project, the first phase of which will see 50 megawatts (MW) of annual production capacity established, and 100 people employed. The facility will be located in Windsor, and is expected to supply both the Canadian and U.S. solar markets.
Although the company did not disclose how much final production capacity is expected to be, it did say the second phase would likely see another 100 employees taken on board. It is also not clear when it will be operational.
Rainer Ruschke, CEO of Algatec Solar commented: "Algatec Solar Ontario will install highly automated production equipment for manufacturing silicon based photo voltaic modules."
The German parent company currently operates two manufacturing factories in Germany with a combined annual photovoltaic module capacity of 120 MW.
