SunPower completes 3.5 MW Macy's solar system

SunPower designed and installed the system, and will provide on-going operations and maintenance services. The U.S. company explains that the system features its solar roof tile, which is said to combine a solar panel, frame and mounting system into a single pre-engineered unit.

Tilted at a five-degree angle, SunPower says that the tile approximately doubles the energy generated per square meter compared to other systems, which are mounted flat onto commercial rooftops.

According to estimates provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Goodyear system is expected to offset more than 3,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

Arizona Public Service (APS) provided Macy’s with financial rebates through its Renewable Energy Incentive Program. APS then purchases the associated renewable energy credits.
