MiaSolé provides staff layoff update

While the spokesperson would not provide any specific details regarding how many employees had been affected, they did confirm that layoffs had been made. According to Greentechmedia, 10 percent of the company’s workforce has been let go.

"Difficult market conditions" were cited as the main reason for the decision which, as with many other solar companies, affected MiaSolé’s growth, thus leading it to introduce a "stringent" austerity plan. "We are working with our employees to make the transition as smooth as possible," said the spokesperson.

They added, "MiaSolé is committed to building a sustainable business through innovation and manufacturing improvements. We have increased performance by 25 percent in 2011 and are shipping in volume at 13 percent efficiency.

"We will be shipping 14 percent in Q1 with a roadmap to 15 percent by the second half of 2012. MiaSolé is the only solar company in the world with a 14.5 percent flexible cell and will soon be delivering a unique flex product. We have a strong management team and will also focus on developing strategic partnerships to fuel our next wave of growth."
