The Germany-based company announced on January 23 that it would open an office in the region. It is working with Saleh Ahmed Al Badi, who will direct the Donauer branch in Muscat.
In response to questions posed, Andreas Fornwald, general manager of international projects for Donauer told pv magazine that five new jobs will be created over the course of 2012. This figure will "scale-up according to the project pipeline," he added.
In terms of photovoltaic projects, he explained that a "couple" of Letters of Intention have already been signed and the company is currently in negotiations regarding new projects.
"We are also participating in national tenders for the solar energy in Oman and Saudi Arabia," continued Fornwald, who said that project sizes will vary between 100 kilowatts and 200 megawatts. Both on- and off-grid systems will be installed via local installation and execution partners.
In addition to establishing a sales and service network, the company will also train local customers and employees at its solar academy. Fornwald said that the academy, which is a cooperation between German universities and Donauer, will open its doors in the second half of the year.
"We also plan to involve some Gulf and American institutions, too. The number of places will be adjust to the demand and will welcome students from all Arab countries," he added.
Looking ahead, he said that Donauer will expand into the Saudi Arabian, UAE and Iraqi photovoltaic markets.
