Germany: Agreement on solar cap before summer break

The Chancellor met with the German state ministers today in Berlin. Merkel has decided with them to set up a working group which will discuss the necessary steps to be taken henceforth with regards to the energy policy implementation. To chart the progress of the working group, regular meetings with the state ministers have been planned.

The new Federal Environment Minister Peter Altmaier has expressed that from his point of view, he believes that the energy policy can succeed. The decision on solar subsidy cuts which had been decided by the federal government and the parliament have not made it past the Federal Council of Germany. Hence, a conciliation committee is now reviewing the situation.
