Betty Xiong, marketing director for Samil tells pv magazine the agreement was signed with a military group, the name of which she cannot disclose. The plants will be installed in Xinjiang over a period of five years.

Currently, Xiong says some of the key permits have been secured for the plants, and others are in the process of being obtained. While other equipment suppliers and an EPC contractor are still to be announced, work is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year.

The $4.8 billion in funding will reportedly come from the Chinese photovoltaics manufacturer, and some of its partners. No further details were provided, however.

To date, Samil Power has installed a number of photovoltaic projects in China, including a 200 megawatt (MW) plant in Golmud Qinghai, a 20 MW plant in Wulan Qinghai, a 20 MW plant in Qinglongxia and 13.4 MW plant in Suqian Jiangsu.
