India: Bharat Heavy Electricals commissions 5 MW solar plant

BHEL set up the solar power plant for Karnataka Power Corporation Limited. BHEL took over the design, manufacture, supply, installation and commissioning of the project and will also operate and maintain it for three years. Crystalline silicon photovoltaic modules produced at BHEL's manufacturing facility in Bangalore have been used.

So far, the plant is operating in a satisfactory manner since the synchronisation with the main grid. The power being generated by the plant is fed into a 66kV grid.

BHEL is involved in almost the entire solar supply chain, from cells production to system integration in India. The company also has an R&D support center in Gurgaon.

Overall, BHEL has commissioned 15 MW of solar power plants across India during the fiscal year 2011 and 2012, namely in Lakshadweep, Sagar Islands of West Bengal, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, tribal areas of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
