Flanders, the Flemish region, boasted a total installed photovoltaic capacity of 2.061 GW at the end of 2012, and Wallonia, the French speaking region, recorded 491 MW. While Brussels had installed just 15 MW by the end of last year, it showed an 83% increase in capacity compared to 2011.
Apere adds that the 2.6 GW figure could increase further, since there are projects completed towards the end of the year that haven't yet been included in the final calculations.
Overall, photovoltaic power is said to cover 14% of Belgiums housing consumption, or 2.8% of the countrys total electricity needs.
