Borrego Solar doubles assets under O&M management

Borrego Solar Systems Inc. has gained 265 MW of assets under contract since launching its operations and maintenance service in early 2015.

The company, based in Oakland, California, began offering its O&M services to owners of commercial and utility solar PV plants last year. Prior to that, Borrego Solar only offered its O&M services to projects it designed and built.

The company said it extended its service to projects developed and constructed by other engineering, procurement and construction firms last year in response to increased demand from solar asset owners in need of reliable O&M support. The expanded offering appears to be paying off. The company’s current portfolio is more than double what it managed in 2014 and quadruple that of 2013.

“In our first year of expanding our O&M offerings to all PV asset owners, it’s become very clear that there is demand in the market for the tools, services and expertise we’ve built into our O&M offering,” said Matt Murphy, director of O&M for Borrego Solar.

Murphy says the company’s preventive maintenance includes an annual 100% IV curve trace, aggressive site response times, short case resolution periods and a customer portal that provides insight into asset performance and maintenance activities.

Borrego Solar manages assets for owners of multiple projects, utility-scale projects and sub-MW capacity projects.

In view of increased business, the company, which also has offices in San Diego, Boston and New York, has increased O&M staff and capabilities by 50%, primarily adding field electricians. It has also moved into new markets, including North Carolina, where it now has more than 60 MW under management.

Murphy will take part in a panel discussion on Friday at the Solar Power Asset Management & Performance conference in Newport, California.
