China’s Xi’an Road Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. (XRMC) has announced the connection of a 7.27 MW rooftop solar PV plant to the grid in the city of Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi Province in central China.

XRMC is a subsidiary of the state-owned China Communication Construction Co., Ltd. (CCCC) and the rooftop project marks the parent group’s first foray into PV power generation. The solar installation is also the first PV project to be directly connected to the 110 kV substation in Xi’an.

Monitoring statistics indicate that on July 31, the plant’s total output reached 36,360 kWh throughout the day, exceeding 22% of the designed capacity.

The facility was completed in six months from project establishment to grid connection. It is the first among the projects registered in the Xi’an Economic Development Zone in the 2014-2015 period to successfully go online. It is also the first “full-power-sales” rooftop distributed PV power station in the Zone.

XRMC specializes in construction and maintenance machinery manufacturing and R&D. It is a leading manufacturer of asphalt mixing equipment, paving equipment and road maintenance equipment in China with total assets of CNY 1.3 billion ($195.7 million).

XRMC says the project is part of CCCC’s efforts to implement new business strategies and lay a solid foundation for the company’s further entry into clean energy and the building of high-quality operational portfolio.
