The projects, while unnamed by SMA, range in size from 10 MW to up to 270 MW.
“2017 represents a ground breaking year for solar farm development in Australia, thanks to improved economic factors and pervasive market interest”, said John Susa, Executive Vice President of SMA Sales North America/APAC – in a statement announcing the contracts. “This success has been achieved by working closely with different developers and EPCs.”
SMA’s Susa added that the contracts include deals to supply Sunny Central inverters, alongside the MVPS and controller systems.
Several of the projects that SMA will supply are a part of ARENA’s Large Scale Solar Program, which will twelve PV power plants developed, with a combined capacity of around 500 MW.
Central inverters maintain very strong market share in the Australian utility scale market segment. SMA has been present in the market for around 10 years, and boasts of a team of 40 local staff across fulfilling engineering, sales, marketing and service roles.
SMA says that it provides project developers and EPCs with support in terms of planning, design, engineering and project management, making it “uniquely positioned” in the Australian marketplace – the company claims in today’s statement.
The company says the containerized MVPS solution is well suited for PV power plant projects in Australia due to its ease of transport, operation and operating costs.
