As the PERC investment cycle continues, with several leading manufacturers laying out plans to shift large portions of production capacity to the technology, equipment supplier SoLayTec reports that it has received an order for its ALD tool, used for backside passivation of PERC cells.
The new order, from a repeat customer which SoLayTec says has now ordered seven of its ALD tools, brings the Netherlands based Amtech subsidiary’s total orders for the machine to 25, 15 of which are to be used in mass production.
The order is expected to ship and be installed by October 2017. Financial details were not provided, however SoLayTec states that it has now received orders from this customer for a total of 1 GW PERC production capacity.

“This follow-on order validates our customer’s confidence in the performance capabilities of our spatial ALD system in high volume productions of PERC solar cells,” says Fokko Pentinga, CEO of parent company Amtech. “There is a high level of enthusiasm in the PV marketplace for PERC solutions and this manufacturing platform supports our customers’ goals to improve the total cost of ownership by increasing cell efficiency.”
