JinkoSolar has set a new record for monocrystalline cell efficiency, achieving 24.38% with its ‘Cheetah’ series monocrystalline cell. The previous record for this technology was also held by Jinko, which achieved 23.95% conversion efficiency back in May 2018.

The company also equaled an efficiency record which rival manufacturer Trina Solar claimed just last week, achieving 24.58% on an n-type monocrystalline cell. Jinko had previously set the record for this technology at 24.2%. Both cell efficiencies have been certified by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

And Jinko also reports today that it’s 72-cell monocrystalline module, utilizing 158.75mm cells, achieved power of 469.3 W in testing carried out by TÜV Rheinland. The company is one of several to have moved to this larger wafer size, and recently told pv magazine that it sees this size becoming a new standard in the near future.

The larger wafer allows for a smaller gap between cells in a module and a slightly larger active area, increasing the power output – 158.75 mm is viewed by many as optimal, as it is the largest that can be produced without necessitating further changes to production lines.

The manufacturer credited its new power and efficiency achievements to a range of technological breakthroughs achieved at various production stages, including low oxygen wafer growth, low-loss cell interconnection and other cell and module advancements.
