While China continues to dominate PV manufacturing, Recom AG today announced plans to further invest in its European production capacity.
The French PV module maker said a planned new manufacturing facility in Minsk, developed with the help of unidentified local partners, is projected to produce 300 MW of high efficiency, bifacial, half-cut PV modules annually.
The manufacturer says the factory is scheduled to be fully operational by October. Production equipment will primarily come from Asia, a company representative told pv magazine, without disclosing further details.
Recom CEO Hamlet Tunyan said the fab will primarily serve Europe but also the U.S. and Asia. In a statememnt announcing the factor, the company said, “The new manufactory in Minsk is also expected to open new opportunities for solar projects in Belarus.”
This year Recom moved its headquarters from Düsseldorf, Germany to Lannion, France. Last July the manufacturer announced the purchase of Jabil’s production facility equipment in Poland and in September Recom told pv magazine it had plans for a 700 MW cell and module factory in Armenia.

Those Europe-focused plans followed the 2017 acquisition of a Silia VL module factory in Lannion. Company representatives today told pv magazine the French facility is being upgraded to produce 300 MW of modules but did not confirm its active current capacity.
They added that Recom has a cell production plant in Padua, Italy, which is under consideration for a technological upgrade. No information on current capacity was divulged.
Staff confirmed the company has maintained European offices in Germany and Greece.
