English soccer club Southampton FC offers two-for-one solar panels

Southampton FC fans who spy an opportunity to improve their household energy efficiency are being offered a buy one, get one free discount on solar panels via UK solar leasing company Utilita Home.

New customers looking to score discounted rooftop solar panels are invited to apply for a free online quote from Utilita Home using promotional offer code. Those that do so before Aug. 31 will be entered into a prize draw, with the chance to score hospitality tickets for Southampton v Bolton, plus a signed shirt.

Installing rooftop solar panels can save Southampton fans up to GBP 1,275 ($1,737) per year according to Utilita, netting them bill savings and cutting their carbon footprint.

The savings estimate is based on a large electricity usage home in the United Kingdom, using roughly 5,700 kWh per year, with Utilita claims could save GBP 916 on a 16-panel system with 5.32 kWh of battery storage, plus a further GBP 359 in savings in exports to the grid.

To qualify for the promotion, entrants must be new domestic solar customers aged 18, and must complete and submit a desktop survey. Eligibility for promotion is subject to terms and conditions.  

Southampton FC is not the only English club with ties to the solar industry. Premier League runners-up Manchester City signed a multi-year global partnership with JinkSolar in June 2024.
