From solar module production to recycling

Environmental impact is a growing consumer consideration when investing in renewable energy. Millions of solar modules are produced every year and a huge amount of energy and high-value materials like silicon, silver, and glass go into their making. As part of moving toward a circular economy, module recycling processes need to be improved and scaled up as a tool to retain the value of those materials. And this will also require improvements in transparency and compliance when it comes to the sourcing and documenting of materials.
In this pv magazine Webinar, we will examine the processes that go into sustainable module production and recycling.

Vitor Rodrigues, chief technical service engineer at Longi will introduce the company’s product portfolio, including the recently launched Hi-MO 6 module with hybrid passivated back contact cell technology. Then Jian Cui, head of product management (DG Europe) will provide an overview of Longi’s successful compliance with the EU’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (WEEE), which mandates 80% of PV modules’ mass to be recycled, followed by the net-zero achievements of LONGi as well as the targets and roadmap.

Benjamin Wong, associate director, strategy & public affairs will join the discussion to present Longi’s sustainability report and its module production and recycling processes. He will explain the steps the company has taken to meet Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments and climate targets, as well as what it has achieved so far.
