How BIPV façades behave under enclosure fire conditions A group of scientists in China constructed a specialized compartment to test the thermal breakage and fallout of BIPV façades under enclosure fire conditions. They examined three different types of BIPV modules and found that tempered-glass PV panels exhibit superior thermal and mechanical resistance to breakage.

Building a new solar industry segment A study conducted by the German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in collaboration with India-based think tank the Center for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), found that India has the potential for more than 300 GW of building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems on its existing buildings alone. Moreover, according to a World Bank report, 70% of the buildings India will need to become a developed nation by 2047 are yet to be constructed, underscoring the vast future potential for BIPV systems in the country.

New reflective coating increases BIPV power output by 11% Australian researchers developed a low-cost reflective coating for semi-transparent solar roof tiles that lowers surface temperatures by up to 20 C and boosts power output by up to 11.7%. Simulations across five global cities showed energy savings of up to 5.85%, highlighting the coating’s strong potential for improving both building cooling efficiency and solar performance in BIPV systems.
